Eliminating cords and tubes in hospitals can significantly reduce patient and caregiver injuries, leading to safer and more effective care.
In this episode, Jason Bobay, the President and CEO of Recovery Force Health, shares how his company is transforming patient recovery by freeing them from beds and tracking their movement. Recovery Force's compression device, powered by a 40-hour lithium-ion battery, monitors patient position and activity, providing valuable data to healthcare providers. By eliminating traditional tubes and cords, the device reduces fall risks for both nurses and patients while ensuring adherence to recovery plans. Jason also underscores the importance of movement in preventing blood clots and hospital-acquired conditions, as well as the value of in-person interactions to better understand patient needs.
Tune in and learn how Recovery Force Health is improving patient outcomes and caregiver safety through innovative medical device technology!

[00:00:29] Hey everyone, welcome back to the Outcomes Rocket founder stories. I'm so pumped to have the outstanding Jason Bobay with us again. He is the President and CEO of Recovery Force. Jason, such a pleasure to have you back, brother. Thank you, Saul. Great to be here. Hey, it's such a pleasure. You know, Jason has been a med device pro.
[00:00:54] He and I share some time at Striker together and he's doing some incredible work that's super impactful in the hospital space. So let's get right into it. Tell us about your business, Jason. What do you guys do? How is it different? And why does it matter? Yeah, thanks, Saul. So we're different because we get rid of cords, tubes, all the what I call booby traps in the hospital that cause trips and falls and negative things to patients and caregivers.
[00:01:20] And the big thing about it is it's safer and more effective untethering the patient from the bed. And we track everything they do while they're in bed. So one of the things you'll find out is you're going to know when you walk in a room what a patient's been up to without ever talking to anybody. And that's breakthrough stuff that the hospital has never experienced. Well, I think that's game changer. And how specifically do you guys do it? Yeah.
[00:01:44] So we have a compression device that you wrap around your leg and it gives you a squeeze once a minute, just like the compression that's in there now. But the biggest thing that we have is it's all lithium ion battery, 40 hour battery life. And we track the patient's bed upright and steps throughout the day. So you'll know what they've been doing similar for like a Fitbit for the health care patient. If you will. I love it, man. That's great. So what end customer do you serve in the health care ecosystem?
[00:02:13] Yeah, the first one, the one in the hospital, the one that's having some issues postoperatively bed bound for a bit. And then the good news is once they get discharged, we're still good for them. We get all of our data remotely monitored for that patient and that we keep track of them, make sure they get a good outcome. And if they're not doing what they're supposed to, they'll get a bump and we'll let them know. I love that. And so the patient's the ultimate beneficiary. But you I imagine you contract with health systems. Yeah, we do.
[00:02:39] So there's a lot of risk that goes involved with caregivers taking care of these patients. So if you think about a scenario where they go in the middle of the night and they're trying to check on the patient to make sure they're doing OK. Right now, the current standard of care has tubes hanging down right by the bedside. And those rooms are dark. And when you got a caregiver not trying to disrupt the patient, that tube literally wraps around a nurse's leg. We've heard them fall down, crack their head, break their wrist.
[00:03:05] We've had them become patients because of what they're trying to do for caring for the patient. So it's awful. You know, so our thought is, why do you have to even worry about that? Get rid of the tubes. And that's what we've done. That's awesome, man. Sounds super useful. And what's one thing most people don't know about this problem you solve? That blood clots happen every day in a hospital more than they ever should. And it doesn't matter if you're young or old, male, female. It is nondiscriminatory. And what happens and why?
[00:03:35] Because you're laying in bed. You're not moving. Your body was designed to move. And we say you got to move to improve. And if you're not doing that, you're going to get a lot of bad things, not just the blood clot, but a pneumonia. You're going to decondition. You're going to get a pressure ulcer. There's all these are hospital acquired events, all because a patient just lays in bed all day. So our device was designed to squeeze you when you have to lay in bed.
[00:04:00] But it also is designed to help you get up and get out, which is the ultimate goal. That's awesome, man. Well, it's great that you're working on this problem and kudos to the success you've had since, man, I mean, we haven't talked for about four or five years. So awesome to see all the growth you guys have experienced. Look, we like to learn from successful people. What's your favorite business resource or business hack that you recommend to our listeners and why? Yeah, it's funny.
[00:04:29] We were just talking about a little bit ago, you and I. Nothing beats that in-person interaction. I tell my whole team, get to the hospital, look at that patient, look at that family in that room and understand that you're fortunate enough, you get to go home that day. And going to the hospital, keeping it personal in our line of business and med tech, that is the business hack. As much as I love talking to you remotely like this, you're not getting it done like we are if you're not in the hospital. I love that, Jason.
[00:04:58] Be there, show up, folks. That's how you make it happen. And I love these founder stories because we learn from the best. And Jason's definitely one of the best. Jason, if people want to learn more about you and your awesome company, RF Health, how can they find you? Yes, great question. Hit us up on RFHealth.com. The RF stands for Recovery Force. And our LinkedIn, we're very active. We're sharing stories. We're teaching you things that you think you should know in healthcare. But you know what?
[00:05:28] This is all we think about. So you might learn a few things as well. I love it, Jason. Well, hey, I want to thank you very much for joining us today. This has been a lot of fun. Folks, make sure you check out the show notes for different ways to get in touch with Jason and his team at Recovery Force Health. And Jason, so great to be with you again.
